Google for Education Exam Privacy and Policies

Following are the Exam Terms and Conditions and Exam Privacy and Policies agreement that is presented to all candidates during the exam registration process. During registration candidates are presented with a checkbox and "I agree" button mentioned in the document.


Instructions to examinee

Read the following terms carefully. If you accept the terms, please click the checkbox when presented during registration. If you do not accept the terms of this agreement, you will not be permitted to take the exam to certify you in the Google for Education Certification program. The program certifies individuals that have demonstrated the necessary skills to leverage Google Workspace for Education technology in a way that transforms education and meaningfully impacts the people and customers it serves.


As part of taking the Exam, Google will capture your personal information which includes, but is not limited to: your photograph, your digital keystroke patterns, and your personally identifying information (including, but not limited to, name, address, company, title). In addition, as part of the online proctoring of each Exam, if applicable, Google or an agent of Google may be watching a live webcast of you at your session (and can communicate with you, tell you to stop taking cell phone calls, etc.). All information collected in connection with the Exam shall collectively be referred to as "Exam Information". The Google Privacy Policy describes how we treat personal information when you use Google’s products and services, including the Exam Information. In addition, the following describes our privacy practices that are specific to the Exam. All Exam Information you submit to Google is collected by Google or its authorized agents in the United States, as well as the jurisdiction where you take the Exam. Exam Information may be shared with our affiliates, subsidiaries or joint ventures in other jurisdictions for Exam purposes. This Policy is governed by United States law.

For individuals located in the European Union, by submitting your Exam Information you are agreeing to the transfer of that information outside the European Union (EU) or the European Economic Area ("EEA") to countries where privacy standards may differ.

Frequently Asked Questions

How will Exam Information be used?

The Exam Information you submit is used for the following purposes:

  • Registering test takers to take exams
  • Providing successful test takers with digital certificates and printable/downloadable versions of their certificates
  • Track the number of certified professionals employed by partners
  • Tracking an individual’s certification renewals and additional certifications over time
  • Ensuring the security and proper scoring of the Exam process and the Exam

Your Choices

Submitting your Exam Information is voluntary. However, if you choose not to submit your Exam Information, you will not be permitted to take the Exam.

Who may access your data?

Google employees, affiliated companies or entities acting on behalf of Google process Exam Information for the purposes listed above. Google takes appropriate technical, organizational, and legal steps to protect Exam Information. Affiliate companies or entities acting on behalf of Google with whom we share your Exam Information will be bound by terms of confidentiality.

Does Google keep your data?

Exam Information is retained in accordance with local law. We may also retain Exam Information to:

  • Dispute resolutions around test taking and passing
  • Do demographic and similar non-personally identifiable analyses regarding the test taker populations, pass rates, and other behaviors
  • Track the number of certified educators employed by schools and districts
  • Track the certified individual's certification renewals and additional certifications over time

Failing and Retaking the Exam

If you fail the Exam, you may retake the Exam, but you must wait at least fourteen (14) days before doing so. If you fail the Exam a second time, you may retake the Exam, but must wait at least sixty (60) days before doing so. If you fail the Exam a third time, you may retake the Exam, but must wait at least one (1) year before doing so.

Exam Fraud

Our Exam system monitors all completed Exams for instances of fraud, cheating, or the misrepresentation of personal identity. The Google for Education Team reserves the right to terminate any and all certifications or badges associated with a user who violates our exam policies, including the exam retake rules listed above.

Cheating is unfair to candidates who have put in the hard work and play by the rules, so if you see it or hear about it, report it. Contact the GFE Testing Violations Team by email at gfe-certification-violation@google.com.

Certification Renewal / Recertification

Candidates must recertify in order to maintain their certification status. Unless explicitly stated in the detailed exam descriptions, all Google for Education certifications are valid for three years (36 months) from the date certified. You may attempt recertification starting on your certification expiration date (36 months after certification), or up to 30 days after your expiration date. Any attempt to recertify or attempt the same exam while currently certified before this time period will result in a rejected attempt, forfeiture of any exam fees paid, possible revocation of your current certification as well as any other Google for Education certifications, and possible suspension from the Google Certification Program.

Use of Google Certification Logo

Your use of the Google certification logo is only for the personal use of the individual person who passed the Exam, and cannot be used to represent that a company or school is certified. That is, a company or school may not represent itself as certified—only those individual persons who have passed the Exam may represent themselves as certified. Your use of the Google certification logo is subject to Google’s then-current Brand Feature Guidelines, which are located at the following URL: https://www.google.com/permissions/guidelines.html.

Embargoed Countries

Google complies with the U.S. government’s list of restricted countries maintained by The Office of Foreign Assets Control of the US Department of the Treasury. For online Exams, you must present approved identification showing residence in a non-embargoed country.

These policies are incorporated by this reference, and may change from time to time. Please see https://edu.google.com/for-educators/frequently-asked-questions/ for the latest program policies. If Google suspects that you are in violation of any of the policies, Google, in its sole discretion, may revoke any of your Google for Education certifications and you may be permanently barred from taking any Google for Education exam.

Personal Information and Privacy

When we collect and process your personal information during participation in the Exam, your personal information is handled in accordance with Google’s Privacy Policy, as well as the additional Enterprise Certification and Exam Privacy and Policies Terms below.

In providing Exam services, we may collect personal information such as:

  • Your answers to exam questions and the results of the exam
  • A record of your interactions with our performance-based exams
  • Your certification status
  • Photographic and/or video recordings taken to confirm your identity, prevent fraud, and to otherwise help administer and score the test

Data Sharing Policy for Google for Education Exams

The data sharing policy is limited to data collected for the Google for Education Certification program and is related only to the certification. The data sharing policy is limited to data shared with third-parties for the purpose of certification.

The certification data that could be shared with third-parties will include:

  • The name of the user certified
  • The email of the user certified
  • The name of the certification earned
  • The date that the certification was earned (effective date)
  • The date that the certification will expire
  • The certification data that will not be shared with third-parties includes:
  • Any description of the user’s engagement as a candidate for certification including exam dates, scores or grades

Sharing within Google

  • The certification program will share data related to certifications to program managers; limiting access to data for users who report to the manager directly or indirectly.
  • The certification program will share data related to certifications to program managers; data for users who are external to Google will be shared with program managers when the users are members of the program audience, eg. data for Partner users will be shared with program managers who run partner programs and have a need to know certification data in connection with the program intent.

Definition of a Third-Party

  • Google will share certification data with a third-party if the user has helped to establish a relationship with him/herself and the third-party; typically this will be represented by an employee/employer relationship.

Conditions of release to a Third-Party

  • Google certification program will only release user data if the user has affirmatively acknowledged the program terms & conditions and has been notified that they have earned the certification.
